PILATES

The Pilates Method is a system of exercises focused on increasing flexibility and muscle strength for the total body. The primary focus is on gaining support and strength in the central muscles of the body, the abdomen, lower back, inner thighs, and gluteal muscles, thus allowing the entire body to move more efficiently, freely, and with greater agility. As muscle tone and flexibility improve, wrong postures are corrected and the body takes on a more streamlined shape. Because your mind is engaged with your body to perform the movements correctly, you experience a new awareness of muscle function and control. The Pilates Method promotes physical harmony and balance for people of all ages and fitness levels while providing a refreshing and energizing workout.

The Pilates classes at EFC offer a unique series of exercises designed to improve your flexibility, core strength, coordination and posture, as well as improve your body alignment and breathing.  The Pilates method provides a system of exercises that were developed almost a century ago by Joseph H. Pilates.

The class will focus on developing proper techniques with breathing, relaxation, concentration, controlled movement, fluidity and strength.  Pilates exercises are designed to strengthen the foundational muscles as well as create flexibility and increase range of motion.  Although goals vary with each individual, you can expect to enjoy better posture, a strong center, suppleness and a better connection with your own body.

Group classes are held in our Exercise Studio and individual sessions are also available in the Pilates studio.
