MASSAGE THERAPY

EFC's Massage Therapy program offers a relaxing addition to your fitness routine. Our massage therapist provides various types of massages in a dedicated massage studio including:
  • deep tissue
  • Swedish relaxation
  • sports and injury work
  • hot stone massage
  • Reiki massage
  • pregnancy massage

Massage therapy has been proven to be beneficial for reducing stress and tension of everyday living. It may also bring relief to many chronic conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, fatigue, depression, muscle pain and stiffness. In addition, massage therapy is often times an integral part of physical rehabilitation programs.

Louise E. Davis, M.Phil., CMT, FRSH

Summary

Louise Davis emigrated to the United States in 2000 but was born and brought up in the United Kingdom where she acquired an extensive background in health care, health education research and early years education and training. Louise is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and graduated, ‘With Honors’ from the AKS Massage School, Herndon, Virginia in 2006. She has undertaken additional training in Myofascial Release, as well as acquiring skills in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage and ‘Energy Work’. Louise has a specific interest in the holistic management of pain and her work approaches this at the physical, mental and spiritual levels. She uses the synergy of these elements to effect a relaxing and positive massage which assists the client in understanding and managing their particular perceptions of pain and their strategies to deal with this aspect of their life. Louise has a life-long interest in holistic health care with a particular commitment to helping individuals achieve balanced and healthy life-styles. Louise is an active member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP) and holds a Certificate to Practice as a Massage Therapist awarded by the Virginia Board of Nursing

Background

Awarded a place by the University of Edinburgh to read for a degree in Zoology, Louise Davis instead followed her first love and accepted an offer from the prestigious Royal Academy of Dancing, in London, to train as a classical ballet dancer. Subsequently she moved into nursing, qualifying at Charing Cross Hospital, one of London University’s premier Teaching Hospitals, and going on to specialize in midwifery and pediatrics. Thereafter she studied for a Master’s Degree in Health and Human Behavior at Leeds University having previously been awarded the Diploma in Health Education, as the first ever recipient of the Dalzell-Ward Fellowship. Her research, in the vanguard of evaluating the role of health education in the prevention of coronary heart disease, became a model for such investigations throughout the UK. After a period in academia she was appointed Principal and CEO of the Norland College, training childcare professionals at the highest level, advising on early years’ education policy at the national level, and consulting internationally.
